thrice tagged.

sorry i am so late to this meme, but now that i am spending many hours in bed with what is officially diagnosed as bronchitis, i figured i’d finally do it!

i was tagged by reproducing genius, two moms are better than one, and the chronicles of conception.

Rules, rules, rules: post what you’ve got on the table (chair, nightstand, whatever) beside your bed. Leave nothing out. Nothing. Link back to the kind person who tagged you and then tag 3 other folks. Really tag them – none of this “whoever hasn’t done this meme yet” tagging.

currently, my nightstand is a mostly empty bookshelf, and it currently houses:

  • my reading lamp
  • bl.istex
  • basal thermometer (only used for fever-checking these days)
  • peppermint life.savers (for nausea)
  • cellphone
  • 1990 ra.dio sha.ck brand alarm clock, given to me by my father on my first day of middle school. it still works!
  • advanced healing lotion
  • a plastic cup gathering dust
  • two books: spiritual midwifery (has anyone read this? the 70s hippie language cracks me up so much. maybe i should do the 123 meme with this book. standby.) and jeannette winterson’s lighthousekeeping. (not bad, but not her best.)
  • and empty gallon jug o water, because that’s how much i’m drinking these days.
  • my work badge.

has anyone not been tagged yet? i tag babycakes and family style love.

123 meme
Rules:1. Grab the nearest book of 123 pages or more.
2. Open it to page 123.
3. Find the first 5 sentences and write them down.
4. Then invite 5 friends to do the same.
(i think everyone has left this one behind by now. so no further tagging, but clearly, an open invitation…)

from spiritual midwifery by ina may gaskin
(if you haven’t read the book, it is full of birth stories at the farm from women and men alike.)

“i was pretty dilated and feeling like maybe i needed to push, so denise called mary louise and pamela. as soon as mary louise got there, the whole room got psychedelic and i realized i could’ve called her sooner–she only lived across the road. she got someone to crank up the stove and i got nice and warm and took off my nightgown. it felt really good to do that. naked seemed like the right way to have a baby. the room looked really pretty and all the ladies looked beautiful and glowy.”
