i just spent my lunch hour at the work gym. and now i’m a little thirsty and bit lightheaded.
i’m publicly committing myself to the reclamation of my body. thanks for bearing witness.
you may remember that i ended up about 25 lbs lighter than my pre-pregnant weight after i gave birth to jude. i maintained that weight until a couple months ago, when a few big changes happened:
1. i stopped breastfeeding, except for night and morning sleepy feeds. i stopped pumping too.
2. i started working a shift that had me eating dinner at 11ish every night.
3. i rediscovered my passion for good beer.
so i’ve gained about 10 lbs, according to the very truthful scale at the gym. i even weighed myself all nekkedlike.
i don’t have the time or energy to dream up some big fitness plan, unless i’d like to doom myself to failure. as a working mom, i’m learning to jump on whatever free time slips into my day.
i used to pump for 30 minutes of every lunch hour. now i’m going to use that time to at least work up a sweat on the elliptical.
as my toddler daughter is teaching me, baby steps.
hott ladies, how do you maintain a fitness plan? i wanna know.

I’m impressed that you are even paying attention! Emma was 2 or 3 before I looked back and noticed the glaring difference in pics taken of me during the breastfeeding months compared to the months after I stopped. You think you’ve lost the baby weight, but oh, hang on a minute – there it is. . . so.not.right.
For working out – the earlier in the day the better for me. . . After this past pregnancy I started the p90x regimen – hate it, but love it cause it works.
Would love to be on your blogroll–I am a regular reader and not-so-regular commenter, but I am on the brink (next month!!) of beginning IUIs so will presumably have more questions (and perhaps insights) of my own to add, rather than observing everyone else’s.
If you haven’t read Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food, it is a really smart, well-researched and sane way of looking at food and eating…and putting our relationship with food back in balance. That’s one part of staying in shape, anyway.
In general, I walk and bike for transportation (we don’t have a car). It’s the absolute only way I would get exercise with a kid. An extra trip to the gym? I’m far too lazy for that and I love the efficiency of combining transportation and exercise. I know this method may not be so transferable, though, since I think you have an insanely long commute, right? I admire you for sacrificing your lunch hour.
Of course, I have yet to see if this gets me back to pre-pregnancy size since the baby is only 4 weeks, and I have yet to get back on my bike (Um…I need to heal *much* more before that happens), but it did work for my wife.
I think going to the gym on your work hour is a great idea! It’s in the middle of the day, so one *shouldn’t* be as tired if it were morning. I wish I could do some sort of work-out during my lunch hour but I’m stuck at the 360 bridge no where near home (too poor for a gym membership and I’m positive this office doesn’t have an in house gym… I would have heard about it).
I suppose if you set up a routine of going to the gym at a set time you might just begin to do it automatically.
Good luck pretty laydee! =)
i would like to commit to join you…need to do something, but exercise is the first thing to *go* once school gets insane and i hate it.
i support you in your efforts and hope to be claiming my own. soon.
xoxo

PS – you are adorable in this photo!!!
It’s so friggen’ hot here right now too which just adds to the agony of working out. Good for you for taking initiative!!
We take a long walk every evening (when it’s not raining) and have plans to join the community pool very soon.
you are inspiring me
right now, i’m strolling lachlan around 15-30 minutes outside when it’s cool enough. i try to walk briskly and get my heart rate up a little bit. he loves when i run with him too, but that doesn’t work so well in flipflops (which i wear EVERY day). if i don’t feel like powerwalking, i still just take him out for a little while….if nothing else, it gets my legs moving a bit and we both enjoy the sunshine!
awesome photo of you by the way and CANNOT believe how little jude has suddenly become big jude. it’s so cool to watch her grow.
xo
I’m not a hot lady, but when my arm isn’t messed up (as it is now), I set my alarm for 5:30 a.m. It seems way too early, so I play a mind game with myself. I ask me: “What kind of mom do you want to be today?” (Knowing that exercise helps me with all things mental and emotional.) And then I drag myself out of bed because I need all the help I can get.
